Don't ask, don't...tat?

"At the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today on the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) expressed his concern that repealing the rule would pave the way for allowing "alcohol use, adultery, fraternization, and body art" in the military..."

Forgot to mention...

...today marks the third anniversary of my favorite political gaffe of all time:

NEVER FORGET!!!

Starting a blog

My morning today contained nothing out of the ordinary. I woke up, made some breakfast with my roommates, and retired to my bedroom to do...absolutely nothing. Most of you won't fault me for this since it's a Sunday, but my shame comes in admitting here, now, publicly, that this day, weekend or not, is extremely typical.

Like oh so many of my peers, I lost my job last May, and have been searching for a new one ever since. While part-time, short-term opportunities have a funny way of popping up like mushrooms, my life for some time now has felt pointless in a way I've not previously experienced, and in a way that feels more and more difficult to overcome with each passing day. I'm at a crux--let's call it a quarter-life crisis, if you will.

What's awful about it is that up until last May I really did feel like I'd found my place in the world, and that things were getting easier. I'm told that this "crash" at around age 23 is not an uncommon feeling, but it frustrates me to no end how much smarter and more competent I felt ten years ago.

What's great about it is realizing that I have a rare opportunity to take things in a whole new direction, try my hand at new tasks, meet new people, and learn new things. One of the things I've learned so far is that for god-knows-what reason, there are people about 2-3 times my age who would (and do) pay exorbitant amounts of money to hear my generation's opinion on any number of given subjects.

So I'm starting this blog in an attempt to discover new things about which I'm passionate, share my invaluable opinions with the world and to give myself something to do while I'm not wallowing, procrastinating, or drinking. Or all three.

So...liftoff?
